Tulbaghia violacea 'Silver Lace', commonly known as Variegated Society Garlic, is a clump-forming perennial prized for its slender gray-green leaves edged with creamy white margins and its soft lavender-pink flower clusters. The variegated foliage adds year-round brightness to borders, pathways, and container plantings, while the delicate blooms rise above the foliage during the warmer months. Lightly aromatic leaves help deter pests, making this plant both ornamental and functional in water-wise and low-maintenance landscapes.

Plant Variegated Society Garlic in a location that receives full sun to partial sun and has well-draining soil. Prepare the planting area by loosening the soil and mixing in organic matter to improve drainage. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, place the plant at the same depth it was growing in its container, then backfill and gently firm the soil. Water thoroughly after planting and space plants to allow clumping growth and airflow.

Water regularly during the establishment period, then reduce watering once established, as the plant is drought tolerant. Remove spent flower stalks to encourage continued blooming and maintain a tidy appearance. Fertilize lightly in spring if needed to support healthy growth. Divide clumps every few years to refresh the plant and control size, and avoid overwatering to prevent root issues.
